Why False Alarms Snowball
Once a house starts getting nonsense alerts, trust drops fast. People stop checking the phone, ignore the chime, and arm the system less because the whole thing feels like work.
That is why tuning matters. Calm systems get used. Noisy systems get sidelined.
The Most Common Fixes
- Move motion sensors away from HVAC blasts and direct sunlight
- Increase entry delay if people regularly fumble with groceries or kids
- Rename sensors so everyone understands the alert immediately
- Review pet settings instead of assuming the hardware is broken
Do a Weekly Cleanup for the First Month
The first month tells you almost everything. Which door actually gets used. Which window gets cracked at night. Which sensor name makes no sense when the alert hits.
Clean that stuff up early and the system gets better fast (ask me how I know).
Your Goal Is Trust
A good DIY setup does not need to feel dramatic. It needs to feel trustworthy.
When the phone buzzes, you should believe there is probably a reason.
